Ansätze Zum Taumel
Hrönir LP
Available through the Helen Scarsdale Agency: $20.00
A twisted collection of modern day musique concrète and uneasy listening, produced from the more obscurant sides of the Schimpfluch Gruppe.
"Daniel Löwenbrück, who records as Raionbashi, is the most junior inductee into the Schimpfluch-Gruppe, and Ansätze Zum Taumel is a split between him and Krube., both haves of which stick fairly close to the Schimpfluch aesthetic. Krube. is something of a mystery. This appears to be his debut release, but neither youth nor inexperience are in any way audible in these four vivid, nasty musique concrète pieces. Krube. builds a harsh jarring mass out of vocal sounds (gurgling, choking, belching, heavy breathing), styrofoam-like squeaking and the skittering / shuffling of contact microphones. The lightning-fast edits give the whole side of vinyl a churning feel, like the listener is experiencing a painful trip through somebody's intestinal tract, only to end up completely digested by the time the needle hits the run-out groove. Löwenbrück's side is less flashy but equally captivating. It drifts along, spacious and haunted, only to frighten even more when halfway through, a child's vocal sound appears deep in the mix, perhaps laughing, perhaps crying, maybe vomiting. Its title "Musik And Skepsis" could refer to the experience of hearing any number of Schimpfluch releases, where the listener is forced to question the objective reality of the sonic events presented. Like Yakushinji Kaori's cries on Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock's Asshole / Snail Dilemma, it inspires similar questions about what's really happening in these recordings." -- William Hutson / The Wire
