We Had A Few Sprinkles Today, But Not Enough To Help Out In The Garden

"Blake Edwards (aka Vertonen) entices us with two clues as the metaphoric intent to his masterful piece of greysmear dronemusik. The first is that the source material was recorded in 1978, when Edwards must have been a grade school kid; the second declares this album as a reassessment of brainwashing. Might it not be a stretch to read this album as a slate-cleansing of a previous set of sounds? I think not. Edwards has pulverized whatever that source material might have been into a fine dust that settles upon sinewy tones and dissonant vibrations. He’s also quite keen on maintaining a malevolent shadow that lurks throughout his compositions, despite their relative calm and minimalist beauty. It shouldn’t be a surprise to hear parallels between this album and the works of Joe Colley and The Hafler Trio, considering that Edwards has published both through his CIP imprint." - Helen Scarsdale 2010

Post script: We have learned that the tape in question was sourced from a recording by Jim Jones' Peoples Temple and the title itself is a code from the Temple for "this is not a code", for an additional creep factors to this already impressive excursion into industrially minded minimalism
